Final conference: "Rural tourism - innovations and regional development", Ust-Kamenogorsk, June, 6-7, 2017

The conference aimed to promotion of the project results to organisations responsible for the management and preservation of natural and cultural heritage and tourism development such as Kazakhstan Tourism Association, museums, NGOs, protected areas, district councils and tourism department of the East-Kazakhstan oblast' akimat, tour-operators, community leaders and journalists.

Study tour to the Czech and Slovak Republics, April 16-23, 2017

The study tour was organized by NGO Machaon International and Local Action group (MAS) Straznicko for 4 community leaders and enterpreneurs from Ridder and Katon-Karagai district who. were very active during project implementation period. We organised the tour in order to improve capacities of local leaders who are highly motivated to continew the activities outside the project timelime.

Training for staff of protected areas, scientific institutions, museums, NGOs and local people “Ecosystem services of nature and regional development” Ridder, Poperechnoje, August 7-8, 2016

The Western Altai State Nature Reserve in cooperation with Machaon International (Slovakia), the East Kazakhstan Regional Architecture, Ethnographical and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve (Ust-Kamenogorsk), the KEO "Boomerang", the Straznice Local Initiative Group (Czech Republic), the Wildlife Conservation Center (Russia) and with the support of the magazine "Wind of Wanderings" (Alma-Aty, Ridder) conducted a scientific and practical seminar where the discussion of the current concept of ecosystem services and their importance for the work of protected areas and the sustainable development of Altai was held.

Capacity Building Workshop on the Management of UNESCO designated sites: World Heritage Sites and Biosphere Reserves”, Turin, Milan (EXPO 2015) and the Piedmont region

In the period from 16 to 21 October 2015 project manager Svetlana Belova participated in the pilot edition of the International Academy on Sustainable Development - Capacity Building Workshop on the Management of UNESCO designated sites: World Heritage Sites and Biosphere Reserves”. More than 40 managers of those sites from different parts of the world from South America to China took part.

Development of guest houses

In the Katon-Karagay district, training "Guest services for visitors’ was organised and led by EcoAltai on 5-6 December 2014. 49 people took part in theoretical part of the training and 23 people in the practical part. In February 2015 a mini-grant competition for support of guest houses was organised. 4 guest houses were selected and are now in the process of improvement and refurbishment.

Stakeholder coordination meeting, Ust-Kamenogorsk, February, 12, 2015

The meeting was hosted and led by the Akimat of East Kazakhstan oblast in collaboration with NGO Eco-Altai. The meeting was aimed at sharing information and at developing common plans and strategies that encourage new ideas and methods among stakeholders involved in tourism development.
